Foreigners, especially Americans, are often surprised with freedom when living Brazil. You can drive up and down the country and do not see polica; on the other hand one can be robbed in many places of such cities such as Rio and Salvador. Brazilians take care of their own security themselves,  but police visit crime areas periodically.

Typical living Brazil prices: petrol – 2.70 dollars per gallon, imported beer and wine, books, periodicals – all of this is more expensive than in the U.S.. International calls are $ 0.05 per minute on weekends, shoe cleaning – $ 2, daily newspaper from Rio – $ 0.75, bus fare – 0.45,  local wines – $ 2-3, beer, 600 ml – $ 0.7, dish of the day – one dollar, a salad bar – $ 1.80, 4 photos – $ 4; teeth cleaning in dental clinincs – 20 dollars, guard service – $ 100 per month with accommodation; cost of a cinema ticket  (R$36 / ?13 / $20) or a meal for two in a good restaurant with a bottle of wine (R$126 / ?47 / $69) is comparable with the US or UK. The cost of a one bedroom furnished apartment could set you back around R$ 1,500 – (?550 / $900) per month.

Medications are prescribed at a recipe, can be smuggled or fake, thus cheap. Many drugs, such as Viagra you do not need a prescription. Pharmacist will advise you what medicine you buy at certain symptoms. You can get an injection for a few dollars in a pharmacy. If you want to have cosmetic surgery, Brazil offers range of opportunities, since this country has plenty of  experienced cosmetologists.

Brazilians speak Portuguese with different accents, which can easily incorporate foreign words. If you do not know Portuguese, and you have no friends who speak Portugese, you will need interpreter or local representative to make deals.  Brazil is  the largest country in the world amonth those with Roman Catholic Church.    In Brazil you can smoke anywhere, but not in buses, trains, planes and theaters. In bars and restaurants smoke all, and those who can not stand smoke, forced to sit outside.
